Confidence is like a muscle, the more you use it, the stronger it gets
Self-confidence
Self confidence is like having a superpower. Think about this, what goal would you set if you knew you couldn't fail? Our level of self confidence determines the size of the goals we set for ourselves and It also determines our energy and determination we focus on those goals. If you had this superpower, there would be no obstacle you couldn't overcome. Sounds pretty awesome!!
How does this self confidence "superpower" apply to us as powerlifters? If you've ever stepped up to a weight on the platform with doubt in your mind then you already know the importance of self-confidence when it comes to our liftng. Think about this, If you never fail a lift in your training, that seed of doubt would never be planted there. You'll have that "superpower" stepping up to the bar with supreme confidence and determination that you are making this lift! Someone who is failing regularly on max effort day is likely missing this valuable mental aspect in their training.
How do you avoid failing in your training? As a new lifter, take some time to build your technique and confidence. You will likely see your strength increase weekly as a new lifter. Take this valuable time to instill the thought of "Never Failing" as a pattern to follow in the months to come. If you're already an experienced lifter stuck in the habit of failing on max effort days, focus on this thought, "You're not training to go to a meet and miss. You're training to go to a meet and make the lift".
If you're regularly applying this never fail confidence booster in your training and you miss a lift but it's not a common occurrence, let it go. You missed, but there will always be another max effort day the next week.
